How many porta potties does a Richmond jobsite need?
A Richmond jobsite with 20 or fewer workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Sites with more than 20 workers need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal for every 40 workers. Comfort is better at about 10 workers per unit on a 40-hour week with weekly service.
| Workers on site | OSHA minimum (29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1) | What we usually set (weekly service) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 toilet | 1 standard unit |
| 11–20 | 1 toilet | 2 standard units |
| 21–40 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal per 40 workers | 3–4 units, or 2 units with twice-weekly service |
| 41–80 | 2 seats + 2 urinals | 5–8 units plus 1 hand wash station |
| 81–199 | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 workers | 1 unit per 10 workers, plus hand wash stations |
| 200+ | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 50 workers | Custom plan with a set service day |
Legal minimum from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c). Each standard unit has a seat and a urinal. Our column is a comfort recommendation, not a legal requirement.
What does weekly jobsite service include?
Weekly jobsite service includes a full pump-out of the holding tank, a scrub of the seat, urinal, floor and walls, fresh blue deodorizer, and a restock of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The tech also checks the door latch and vent. Service day stays the same each week.
- Need more? Twice-weekly service handles crews over 10 per unit, summer heat and concrete pours.
- Leave the unit reachable. A blocked unit may be skipped and serviced next visit.
- Winter visits add antifreeze to the tank from roughly December through February.
Crew on site tomorrow?
Call by late morning and the unit can ride on today's route.
How does 28-day jobsite billing work?
Jobsite porta potties bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. The first invoice covers the first 28 days plus the one-time delivery charge. Each later cycle renews on its own until you call or text for pickup. Billing stops on the day you request pickup.
Short jobs count too. A 3-day roof tear-off still uses one 28-day cycle, so ask about the short-term event rate if your crew needs a unit for less than a week.
Can the unit move with my crew or go on a trailer?
A unit can move to your next Richmond-area job with one call. We pick it up from site A and set it at site B, often the same day. Pipeline, utility and road crews can rent trailer-mounted porta potties that tow behind a work truck and get serviced where they stop.

Do construction porta potties need a hand wash station?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities when workers handle paints, coatings, herbicides or other harmful materials. Many general contractors add 1 hand wash station per 4 toilets anyway. A unit with a built-in sink is a cheaper option for small crews of 1 to 10 workers.
See hand wash station sizes or ask for a sink unit on your quote.
Construction Porta Potty Rental in Richmond: questions before you book
My crew starts tomorrow. Can you set a unit today?
Same-day jobsite delivery is often possible when you call by late morning. The unit rides on a route already heading your way. A rush charge may apply and shows on the quote. Afternoon calls usually get a first-thing-tomorrow drop.
Our usual vendor did not show up. Can you fill in?
Call with the address and the gate code. We fit the unit into today's route when a truck is close. If not, it goes out first thing next morning.
Can I put the rental under my company name?
Company rentals list the business name, a billing contact and an on-site contact such as the superintendent. The driver calls the site contact. Approved businesses can apply for net-30 terms.
Do you offer containment trays for jobsites that require them?
Secondary containment trays are available for sites that require spill protection. Ask when you book so the tray goes out with the unit.
Can I bundle a porta potty with a hand wash station?
A hand wash station can ride on the same delivery and service visit. That keeps it to one delivery charge and one service day.
Where should the unit go on a residential build?
Set it on level ground near the driveway, at least 10 feet from the foundation dig and away from where the concrete truck backs in. The service truck needs to park within about 50 feet.
