How many hand wash stations do I need?
Plan 1 hand wash station for every 4 porta potties at an event, and at least 1 wherever food is served. A 2-sink station serves 2 people at once. Food vendors at Kentucky events need handwashing access under the health department's temporary food rules.
Check vendor rules with the Madison County Health Department before the event.
What is in a portable hand wash station?
A portable hand wash station has 2 or 4 basins, a fresh-water tank, a gray-water tank, foot pumps, soap dispensers and paper towel holders. It holds enough water for about 200 to 400 hand washes. It needs no water line or electricity.
| Sinks | 2 (back-to-back) or 4 |
|---|---|
| Fresh water | About 20–40 gallons |
| Footprint | About 3 × 3 ft (2-sink) |
| Washes per fill | About 200–400 |
| Hookups | None |
Do jobsites need hand wash stations?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities when workers apply paints, coatings, herbicides or other contaminants. Many general contractors add a station on every site. Hand wash stations get refilled and restocked on the same weekly visit as the toilets.

Can I rent just a hand wash station without toilets?
Stand-alone stations rent for facilities with a water outage, school field days and food events. The same delivery rules apply.

Who refills the water?
Our crew refills fresh water, empties gray water and restocks soap and towels on each service visit.
