Porta Potty vs Restroom Trailer: Which Should You Rent?
A side-by-side look at the two most common choices for weddings and big parties.

What is the main difference?
A porta potty is a single self-contained stall with a holding tank and no hookups. A restroom trailer is a towable bathroom with flushing toilets, running water, lights and climate control, and it needs water and power. Trailers feel like a home bathroom. Porta potties fit anywhere a truck can reach.
| Porta potties | Restroom trailer | |
|---|---|---|
| Space | About 4 × 4 ft each | About 10 × 25 ft for 2 stalls |
| Hookups | None | Hose + outlet, or generator |
| Ground | Level spot | Level, firm, truck can back in |
| Guests | 1 per 50 guests | 2-stall about 100 guests |
| Feel | Clean and basic | Lights, sinks, mirrors, climate control |
| Lead time | Days | Weeks to months in peak season |
When is a porta potty the better choice?
Porta potties are the better choice for jobsites, casual parties, remote land with no power, sloped lots and tight budgets. They also spread out well: you can place 2 units near the dance floor and 2 near parking. A flushing unit with a sink is the middle ground.
When is a trailer worth it?
A restroom trailer is worth it for formal receptions, evening events, older guests and events of 100 or more people where power is close. Guests stay longer when the restroom is comfortable. Plan the spot early, since trailers need level ground and truck access.
